J J RUSZ is the author of the Big Bend Country Mysteries--focusing on crime and intrigue in Far West Texas and Big Bend National Park. The first book in the series “The Window Trail” (2018) was named Texas Authors Best Mystery/Thriller. “The South Rim Trail” followed in 2019, and a third book “The Lost Mine Trail” appeared in 2020. The tales are action and character driven, with just enough romance and humor to make life in the rugged desert region agreeable. Rusz is the pen name for John J Ruszkiewicz, a Texas resident for more than four decades. He was born Ohio, attended college in Pennsylvania, and earned a PhD in English from The Ohio State University in 1977. Before writing the Big Bend Country Mysteries, he composed or co-authored a range of successful college textbooks, including nine editions of "Everything's an Argument" and five of "How to Write Anything." In 2017, he retired from the University of Texas at Austin, where he taught literature, rhetoric, and writing for forty years. He currently spends most of his time in Alpine, Texas, enjoying its proximity to Big Bend and lots of open space.
